Torodd Wigum

Conductor

Torodd Wigum loves to conduct music from a wide range of the symphonic repertoire. He's also very dedicated to conducting music for films and computer games, concerts for children and other projects including those for refugees and immigrants. He especially enjoys works by the major Nordic composers, such as Grieg, Sibelius and Nielsen as well as lesser-known composers, including Hjalmar Borgström, Wilhelm Peterson-Berger and Johan Svendsen. Torodd has premiered more than 30 new written pieces and is also very much attracted by the Romantic and 20th century repertoires – from Tchaikovsky and Mahler to Stravinsky and Bartok.
Torodd Wigum

Torodd Wigum was born in Trondheim, Norway in 1970. Since August 2010 he has been Conductor in Residence of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. He is also Artistic Director of the Trondheim Sinfonietta, a contemporary music group with whom he has worked regularly in recent years.

From January 2007 to August 2009 Torodd Wigum was assistant conductor with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Andrew Litton, and in 2010 and 2011 he was Conductor in Residence with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. He has also assisted Maestro Neeme Järvi both in Bergen, Norway and Tallinn, Estonia.

Recent and forthcoming engagements include Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the symphony orchestras in Trondheim, Stavanger and Kristiansand in Norway, as well as MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Iceland Symphony Orchestra and Copenhagen Philharmonic.

Torodd Wigum studied the viola at Trøndelag Musikkonservatorium and the Norwegian Academy of music. Whilst still a student he was appointed Principal violist in the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for six years. At the same time he was the solo viola in the Trondheim Soloists, a chamber orchestra which has worked with, among others, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Leif Ove Andsnes, Ole Edvard Antonsen, Joshua Bell and Jon Lord.

Bereits während seiner Ausbildung wurde er als Solobratscher an das Trondheim Symphony Orchestra verpflichtet und blieb sechs Jahre in dieser Position. Zeitgleich wirkte er als Solobratscher der Trondheim Soloists, eines Kammerorchesters, das u. a. mit Anne-Sophie Mutter, Leif Ole Andsnes, Joshua Bell und Jon Lord zusammenarbeitete.
